D-Fend Reloaded provides a graphical front end for DOSBox, that makes it much easier to use.
If you've ever tried to run very old software on a modern PC, particularly DOS games, then you'll know it can be a real problem. And while DOSBox can help in many ways, it will force you spend most of your time at the command line. D-Fend Reloaded can help out, though, every step of the way.
Setup is very easy, for instance. D-Fend Reloaded includes the latest version of DOSBox so there's no need to install it. But the program will use an existing DOSBox installation if you have it already.
D-Fend Reloaded comes with setup templates for around 350 popular games, allowing it to configure these for DOSBox entirely automatically. And if it doesn't recognise a particular program then a helpful wizard will walk you through the setup process.
It doesn't take long to build up a list of your installed games, then, which can be searched, sorted and filtered in any way you like, then launched at a click. But that's just the start. D-Fend Reloaded also creates folders where DOSBox can store screenshots, for instance, and these are also viewable from the program's interface, making it a perfect way to save and see all your favourite game moments.
And the program has a host of advanced features. It can be installed as a portable app on a USB flash drive, for instance; you can use ScummVM as an emulator, as well as DOSBox; you're able to manage both Windows and DOS games from a single interface; the program can create images from CDs or floppies that can be used as DOSBox drives, and more.
Version 1.44 brings the following (Changelog):
- All path names in conf files stored in archive files are made relaltive.
D-Fend Reloaded is a simple and effective games manager that helps you avoid all the usual DOSBox complexities
