ImageTyper is a tiny (162KB) portable tool which will quickly create an ASCII art version of the image you specify. (If you've not encountered it before, ASCII art is a technique which creates pictures using only the printable letters, numbers and symbols from the ASCII character set - view the full-sized version of the program grab to see how this works.)
To use the program, first click Source Image, then Change, and choose the image you'd like to convert.
Next, click the Conversion tab and select your preferred conversion settings from the four options on offer: ANSI/ ASCII, Original colour, Single character and Single colour (one of the first two will normally work best).
Finally, click Convert to view the results.
We found ImageTyper to be rather inconsistent. Often it delivered great images, but sometimes they were poor, and it regularly produced nothing at all (or just crashed).
If you like ASCII art then the program could still be worth a try, especially considering its small size (there's nothing to install, just download and run). Just don't expect too much - ImageTyper definitely needs more work.
ImageTyper can create great ASCII art, but occasional bugs and other oddities make it frustrating to use
