Tesco’s online director, Simon Belsham, has been appointed the CEO of ecommerce business notonthehighstreet.com.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Belsham has held a number of roles at Tesco. For the last three months, as online director, he was responsible for the strategy and operation of all Tesco’s online businesses, including groceries, clothing and general merchandise.

He had been promoted into the role after two years as managing director of Tesco’s online groceries business.

While most of his career has been spent at Tesco, between June 2011 and January 2013, Belsham took a break from the supermarket giant to work for Ocado as director of non-food.

In this role, he led an internal start-up organisation responsible for creating a non-grocery online offering. This resulted in the launch of fetch.co.uk, Ocado’s specialist pet business, at the end of 2012.

Prior to his Ocado position, Belsham had been multichannel development director, UK operations development director and a store manager at Tesco.

He will join the online marketplace in May 2015.

Notonthehighstreet.com was founded in 2006 by Sophie Cornish and Holly Tucker.

Tucker, also president of the firm, said: "Simon's entrepreneurial background and commitment to SMEs will fit well with the ethos and ambitions we have developed at notonthehighstreet.com."

Notonthehighstreet.com said that its customers topped three million last year. It began expanding internationally last year, launching the German .de site in September 2014.
