Rupert Murdoch's News International has apparently abandoned a secret project to produce content for the iPad and other tablets.
The Independent reports that Project Two22 has been scrapped after being branded a 'failure'.
Project22 was apparently focused on producing news and sport-related apps and content for the iPad to be pitched to a slightly more upmarket audience than that of The Sun. There were also rumours that the project was something to do with a UK-focused version of The Daily, an iPad-only 'digital newspaper'.
It was based in London's Gray's Inn Road, taking its codename from the number of the building it was based in, but staff were reportedly offered redundancy packages recently.
It is thought that many of the staff were former News of The World employees and that most refused the redundancy packages, opting instead to be redeployed elsewhere in the company.
