IT salaries in the UK rose by two percent between Q1 2009 and Q1 2010, according to a new survey.
Recruitment company CVScreen surveyed 7,475 IT job posted online and found that the average salary for an IT professional in the period was £36,818.
Unsurprisingly, IT directors were the highest earners, earning an average of £81,183, and in some cases up to £95,000. They were followed by programme managers, who earned an average £64,757, and software development managers with an average salary of £55,286.
The lowest-paid jobs were first line IT support and PC support, which had average salaries of £18,845 and £20,296, respectively. Meanwhile, although web manager job adverts had an average salary of £35,425, salaries for this position ranged from £3,000 to £40,000.
Despite the low salary, first line IT support staff were joint second highest in demand (248 job adverts) alongside third line IT support staff, after .Net developers (254).
According to CVScreen, which conducts the survey annually, technologies such as SharePoint (152 adverts) and PHP development (225) also “remain in high demand”.
Positions with the least demand included VB developer (47 adverts), PC support (49), software development manager (56) and SAP consultant (67).
Demand for SAP skills were also said to be in long-term decline, as well skills in Lotus and DB2, according to a report released by sector skills council e-skills earlier this month.
