IT salaries in the South East region increased by 3.4% to just over £33,500 in the past 12 months, according to specialist IT recruitment agency CV Screen.

The data, obtained from the analysis of advertisements over the last three months of 2007, looked at over 2,500 advertised positions and compared the results with CV Screen’s IT salary survey at the same time in 2006.

The regional survey looked at IT jobs advertised in Surrey, Kent, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Sussex. It concluded that the average permanent IT salary for the region is is £33,513.

Regional account manager Jason Price said 2007 has seen "continuing high demand for IT staff" and the increase in salaries was to be expected.

Price said wages were likely to climb further in 2008, with continuing skills shortages in areas such as PHP, Citrix, .Net and Java.
