London Gatwick Airport is deploying a software simulation platform to improve the check-in operations at its South Terminal.
The airport deals with 32 million passengers a year on short- and long-haul flights and wants to deliver a speedier and more efficient check-in experience.
SIMUL8 simulation software will be used to create a simulation of the check-in process that will include real flight schedules and airline information.
The simulation, said the airport, will allow its team to visualise the impact of any changes they make to the process and provide the insight to make sure any real changes work.
“The check-in area of any airport is often the most memorable point of the passenger journey, and often the most challenging,” said Neil Hutcheon, a SIMUL8 consultant. “This project will give the team at Gatwick the ability to ensure the best possible experience for every passenger.”
Last year, Gatwick Airport signed a multi-million pound deal with SAP and Siemens IT Solutions and Services to overhaul its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
The new SAP ERP system was to replace the existing Oracle-based solution that Gatwick inherited from its previous owner, airport operator BAA, before being sold off in 2009.
