More than 5,500 exhibitors have already signed up for the CeBIT show in Hannover from 4 to 9 March. The final total of exhibitors last year was 6153.
The event has been restructured and will feature categories around major themes including business solutions, public sector solutions, home & mobile solutions, SMEs, health, retail and technology & infrastructure.
European political leaders have been lined up to launch the showcase, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and EU Commission President José Manuel Barroso.
Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, will also attend the opening ceremony.
In addition to its overarching green IT theme, the event will look at the global skills crisis facing IT organisations.
“The problem of an inadequate supply of qualified specialists for the IT industry is becoming more acute. For this reason, we have teamed up with the business initiative known as 'IT Fitness' to create a special weekend event designed to popularize IT careers among young people,” said Ernst Raue, managing board member of event organizers Deutsche Messe.
