Calypso Soft Drinks quenches thirst for improved EDI with new platform

Order processing within seconds not minutes

By Computerworld UK reporter

Calypso Soft Drinks has installed an electronic data interchange platform that is enabling 80% of customer orders to be received for processing electronically within seconds rather than minutes.

It said the system, on a valued added network from Inovis, had already made substantial savings, both on subscription costs and those associated with exchanging data.

The beverage-maker said it chose the Inovisworks platform to replace its previous EDI system
because it the old system that used a dial-up modem was too unreliable and slow.

With the new platform, orders are taken directly via a secure internet connection into Calypso's System 21 iSeries-based ERP system from Infor, where they are processed.

James Holmes, Calypso's IT and CRM director, said EDI was a "business critical system for Calypso. Over 80% of our orders by volume are received by EDI, with next day or day after delivery."

He said the other benefit of the system was that its reliability meant it required minimal IT support, whereas previously having IT staff on-hand at all times was crucial to maintaining business continuity.

Calypso is using Inovis BizManagerT and Inovisworks to enable the secure transport of electronic data and documents, including EDI, XML and flat files (such as spreadsheets and CAD drawings). It has also improved interoperability with third-party solutions to simplify communications with Calypso's trading partners.
