G-Cloud potential suppliers given second chance

G-Cloud potential suppliers given second chance

The framework will be reopened for companies that missed out

The government is offering cloud computing providers a second chance to supply their offerings via its G-Cloud Framework for the public sector.

The CloudStore, as part of the framework, is a catalogue of services and suppliers. The e-marketplace contains details of services and accreditation levels to enable buyers to make comparisons between services.

A posting on the G-Cloud site reads: "If you missed out on the last round and want to submit your own company's cloud-based services to be on the Government CloudStore, then fear not.

"We are planning to re-open the framework for new suppliers and products in the next couple of months....so watch this space."

The services being offered via the G-Cloud cover the full gamut of cloud computing, including software-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service, and other specialist services.

There are already 1,700 services in the G-Cloud catalogue, according to the website, which "now have to be assured". Once services are accredited and assured they will be made available via a newly designed front end on the site.

Although the public sector is obliged to consider the services offered by the G-Cloud, its head recently admitted that some bodies were lukewarm about using it, despite promised cost savings.
