Subsea 7 extends IT outsourcing contract after merger

Getronics will now support 8,000 users following Subsea 7's merger with Acergy

Subsea 7, a global seabed-to-surface engineering and construction company, has extended an IT outsourcing agreement following its merger with Acergy last year.

While Acergy had managed its IT in-house, Subsea 7 had outsourced the core of its IT maintenance and support to Getronics since 2006. Under the new agreement, Getronics will now provide IT support services to all 8,000 users across the merged companies, up from 3,500 users, until 2016.

Getronics has already unified the company’s business messaging applications onto a centrally-hosted Microsoft 2010 platform, and will be migrating all Subsea 7 users to Microsoft Windows 7. It will also implement collaborative tools, such as Microsoft Lync, to enable better communication between staff across multiple sites.

The IT services providers will also provide support for Subsea 7’s mobile sites, that is, its vessels, which contain a number of servers and up to 60 PCs each.

Anders From, Subsea 7 IT director, said: “Creating a new IT platform during any company merger is no easy feat. Working with Getronics has enabled us to consolidate our business infrastructure, improve our capacity to respond to the needs of the business and also provide us with access to the latest technologies and industry leading expertise.”

Subsea 7 will also consolidate its disparate IT support lines into a new, single, global IT service desk in Glasgow under the contract.
