Camden and IslingtonNHS Foundation Trust is set to replace its ‘RiO’ electronic patient record (EPR) system with ‘Carenotes’ from Advanced Health & Care in September.
The trust provides mental health and substance misuse services to patients in several London boroughs. It has 1,400 staff and oversees a population of 420,000.
Advanced beat several other approved suppliers for the five-year contract partly thanks to Carenotes' integrated mobile functionality, a particularly important criterion for the trust as it treats 97 percent of people in the community.
It will mean clinical staff will have access to patients’ records at the point of care rather than needing to return to the office.
The trust wants to eventually move to an integrated, interoperable EPR system across all of its units.
“With the Carenotes solution we are looking forward to helping our clinicians from all specialties and disciplines share information more effectively,” the trust’s associate ICT director David Jackland said.
“Our staff will be able to work better together with the shared goal of improving the health outcomes of our patients.
“We are just at the start of an exciting journey with Advanced. Working in partnership enables us to take significant steps towards becoming a paper light organisation and fulfil the Trust’s longer term ambition,” he added.
RiO was deployed in NHS trusts across the south of England as part of National Programme for IT contracts with BT. It was developed by Sheffield-based CSE Healthcare (now Servelec).
The procurement exercise went through the Clinical Information Systems consortium, which represents trusts that use RiO. Contracts for the system are due to expire this summer.
Advanced Health & Care has had a number of wins in the NHS recently, including five-year deals with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust signed last summer.
