Windows Phone 7 due on October 11?

Microsoft rumoured to launch new mobile operating system

Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 7 on October 11 at an event in New York, according to a report on the Pocket-lint website. Pocket-lint, which publishes gadget news and reviews, cited multiple Microsoft sources that it did not name.

The site said that WP7 phones will start shipping later in October. Officials at Microsoft could not be reached for comment on the report. On September 1, Microsoft announced via a blog post that the reformulated OS was finalised and had been released to manufacturers. Microsoft officials have at various times listed five makers of Windows Phone 7 devices: Asus, HTC, LG, Samsung and Dell.

In September, though, a spokeswoman said Microsoft would only disclose the list of manufacturers named as partners in February at the Mobile World Congress, which includes the five listed above along with Sony Ericsson and Toshiba.
