IBM to provide Danone's new transaction network

Sterling Collaboration Network will enhance dairy producer's customer service

Global dairy producer Danone is working with IBM to provide a secure trading network to support automated business transactions with customers, business partners and suppliers.

Danone's product brands include Activia, Volvic, Evian, Shape, Actimel and Badoit.

IBM is replacing Danone's existing network with the aim of increasing the flexibility and responsiveness of Danone's business-to-business (B2B) commercial transactions to help improve the overall customer experience.

Danone said the IBM system would make it easier for the group to respond to the individual needs of its customers, which include large supermarkets.

IBM's Sterling Collaboration Network is being rolled out across Danone's global business units, each including multiple sales and distribution points and factories.

The large-scale deployment involves the onboarding of up to 600 trading partners to the IBM network and the management of nine million messages a year.

The project supports Danone's ordering, invoicing, delivery and logistics processes. The system provides traditional electronic data interchange (EDI) across a diverse range of formats required by Danone's partners and allows third party data to be integrated with Danone's warehouse data.

"IBM's Sterling team was quick to react to our requests for increased flexibility in meeting trading partners' needs," said Hans Vollebregt, EDI solutions at Danone information systems. "The company also has a proven track record in Europe in providing B2B integration as-a-service."

Last month it was announced that Kerry Foods would be using GXS Managed Services to help simplify, manage and run its complex B2B supply chain.

The company, which owns the Wall's, Richmond, Bowyers, Dairygold, Kerrymaid, Mattessons and Homepride flour brands, said GXS Managed Services will improve customer support and its trading network’s security and disaster recovery.

Kerry Foods’ customers include Tesco, Asda, J.Sainsbury, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer.
