Carmaker plumps for iPass platform after tests

Article comments

Volvo is to roll out secure mobile working to 17,000 staff in 175 countries after signing a three-year deal with iPass to use its iPass Mobile Office service and its iPassConnect universal client.

Volvo IT, the global IT operation of the Swedish carmaker, chose iPass after trialling the software extensively to ensure it would give safe access to corporate network resources from Wi-Fi hotspots across the world.

Easy integration with security, virtual private networks and other back-end systems were also key to Volvo’s evaluation process.

Once installed, the iPassConnect client will give Volvo workers one-click access to the corporate network via a unified interface that ties together remote connectivity, credentials security, an NT domain login and a VPN launch.

Employees will also gain secure access to critical business applications such as email, productivity tools and sales resources.

The iPass technology platform works by acting as a clearing house for Internet logins between hundreds of provider networks and thousands of iPass enterprise customers. It unifies these networks into a single entity and shields enterprise and user information from third-party network providers.
