Google bows before Hurricane Sandy

Google's Android event called off as US braces for 'Frankenstorm'

Google has cancelled a major Android event in New York City because of safety concerns related to Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to hit the in the next few days.

On Friday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency, and the venue where Google had scheduled the event is now in an evacuation zone.

Google alerted event invitees of the cancellation with a brief message on Saturday afternoon, urging them to stay safe and dry and that the company would update them later. Google was expected to take the wraps off several new pieces of hardware on Monday, as well as an updated version of Android, but it seems Mother Nature had other plans.
