BlackBerry services restored following outage for Vodafone customers

As iPhone 5 released, RIM apologises for five-hour outage which comes almost a year after 2011 debacle

BlackBerry customers on the Vodafone network had their services restored this morning following an outage of over five hours caused by an infrastructure update by RIM.

Vodafone customers across Europe were disconnected from the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), with Computerworld UK author Anthony Savvas losing his connection at 6.15am.

RIM acknowledged the problem and confirmed the service was restored at 12.45pm, almost an hour after Savvas could again access the BIS.

RIM said: "Our apologies to any customers impacted by the BlackBerry service issue today. We can confirm that services have been restored and are now operating normally."

Earlier BlackBerry said: "Some users experienced issues with BlackBerry services today. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. All services now operating normally."

Almost a year ago BlackBerry customers on all UK networks suffered an extensive data outage, cutting them off from email, instant messaging and web access for days.
