The bank temporarily blocked access to internet and branch systems this morning to deal with a backlog of transactions which had built up overnight. Customers were unable to access accounts for approximately an hour, before problems were resolved by 10.30am.
The bank is currently investigating the cause of the IT fault which resulted in delays to payments being credited into accounts.
“We'd like to say sorry to everyone who's been affected by the problems we've been having today,” a statement on the bank’s site read.
“We are glad to report that branches and internet banking are now back online after they were briefly out of service this morning while we worked on fixing things.
“Any payments that were due in to accounts overnight have now been processed, but some withdrawals and outbound payments, like standing orders have yet to be processed. These will go through this afternoon, and we'll let you know that this has happened.
“Again, we are sorry, and if you have suffered any financial loss because of this, please contact us and we'll help you with that.”
Customers of the bank had vented their frustrations on Twitter this morning as they awaited payments to be received in their accounts.
