The Welsh government has confirmed a five year extension of its long-standing contract with IT services company Atos, in a deal that is worth £70 million.

Atos has been working with the Welsh government since devolution in 1998 and will now provide ICT services up until 2019.

“As well as securing value for money and the services we need for Welsh government, we were particularly keen to ensure that we didn’t jeopardise the potential for longer term developments that could provide benefits across the public sector,” said Dame Gillian Morgan, permanent secretary.

“We believe this option gives us the value, service and flexibility we were looking for.”

In other news, the Welsh government is seeking a supplier, or suppliers, to help it establish a ‘One Stop Shop’ to provide a business support service for SMEs that works collaboratively across the public, private and third sector.

“The One Stop Shop service will provide a clear, accessible route for all SMEs in Wales to access the right support at the right time in order to help businesses in Wales sustain themselves and grow,” states an online contract notice.

The contract will run for at least three years and is worth over £24 million.

As well as providing one-to-one advice and international trade support, the One Stop Shop also aims to increase e-procurement skills amongst SMEs in Wales, which will include educating on e-tendering, the supplier qualification information database, e-auctions and e-trading.
