The partnership will see CSC double the computing power of its all-digital racing car development facility in the UK.

The new computer suite, which will be housed at the team's Banbury base run by technical partner Wirth Research, is designed to make sure the team can "make more changes, more quickly, at less cost than any other team, to improve and optimise on-track performance", said CSC.

The size and power of the new computer will "allow the smallest design improvements to be validated in a few hours, adjusted as needed, and re-tested". The team said that way of working could be significantly faster, more cost effective and less wasteful than prototype production and wind tunnel testing.

The investment allows Marussia Virgin Racing to use the maximum amount of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) capacity allowed under the Formula 1 Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA), which is likely to be more than any other F1 team in 2011, CSC insisted.

Graeme Lowdon, CEO of Marussia Virgin Racing, said, "Twelve months ago we launched the first Formula 1 car to be designed entirely using CFD to demonstrate that, over time, a new team operating with a smaller and more sustainable budget can enter the sport and be competitive."

As was the case in the team's 2010 debut season, CSC will provide IT services and support for the racing operation at all Grand Prix events and at the team's operational headquarters in Dinnington, South Yorkshire. CSC will upgrade and create key trackside systems, factory IT services, and sponsor and social media projects.

The team also plans to incorporate mobile data services and cloud based solutions to enhance sponsor and fan experiences in the areas of live data and track information at races.

Last year Toyota Motorsport revved up its IT service capability with software provider Hornbill to improve response times by 50 percent and reduce IT costs. Toyota Motorsport serves a variety of motorsport segments, including Formula 1. It deployed the Hornbill Supportworks ITSM Enterprise service management software.
