BAE Systems has is bringing in application migration specialist Camwoood to help on a major infrastructure overhaul project.
The defence giant is migrating all its business-critical applications onto the Microsoft® Applications Virtualisation (App-V) platform and refreshing its desktop estate, under the myIT Desktop project.
The project covers up to 37,500 PC users across BAE Systems’ 74 UK sites and aims to boost business agility, improve IT security, lower the cost of maintenance, and simplify lifecycle management.
In a two-year deal Camwood will provide applications migration expertise to BAE Systems and its IT partners during the PC overhaul and the relocation of around 1,000 business-critical applications into a secure cloud.
This allows permissions based deployment of applications to end users and also simplifies the path for future upgrades, allowing the business to take immediate advantage of new technologies rather than waiting for a scheduled system update window.
Camwood will use its proprietary Application Migration Manager, together with AppTitude software from App-DNA highlights potential problems with application compatibility during migration to new OS and virtualisation platforms.
