Tesco promotes Mike McNamara to be new CIO

Current IT director fills chief executive Philip Clarke’s former role

Tesco has named Mike McNamara (pictured) as its new CIO, responsible for IT strategy and operations across the supermarket chain.

McNamara fills the role recently vacated by new Tesco CEO Philip Clarke, who succeeds Sir Terry Leahy from 1 March.

He will report directly to Clarke, and is one of seven new members of the new Executive Committee, which also includes Ken Towle as internet retailing director.

According to his LinkedIn profile page, McNamara is currently operations development and IT director at Tesco, prior to which he held the position of CTO of tesco.com for seven years until June 2006. Before his career started at Tesco in 1998, he worked at BT and was also a senior manager at Accenture between for seven years from 1991.
