Quarter of ministerial departments now live on GOV.UK

The latest to migrate across include the Ministry of Defence and Department for Business

The Government Digital Service (GDS) has successfully migrated a quarter of ministerial department websites to the recently launched single domain website, GOV.UK, with the remainder to be completed by the end of March.

This week four new departments, including the Ministry of Defence, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for Business, and the Attorney General’s Office, made the move across. This follows the Department for Transport and the Department for Communities and Local Government, which were the first to migrate in November.

The remaining 18 ministerial departments are aiming to be on GOV.UK by the end of March next year.

There are also over 300 other departments and public bodies that need to be migrated to GOV.UK, of which only 15 have been completed so far, but this will happen over a longer time-frame.

GDS has also updated GOV.UK’s policy archive, where it has collaborated across government departments to create a single policy document that describes a cross-government approach. So if two departments collaborate on a single policy, instead of this appearing side-by-side on GOV.UK, it will be integrated into one view.

A GDS blog explains: “Government’s policy on Afghanistan is one example. Producing this policy page involved experts from MOD, the Cabinet Office and FCO, supported by people in those departments’ digital teams who had already helped to shape what policy would look like on GOV.UK, working together to draft a single, clear document for people interested in everything the government is doing on this issue.”
