Virgin Media fixes email glitch

Wants to reassures customers that it was an "isolated" incident

Virgin Media has confirmed that a glitch causing some customers to have problems sending and receiving emails has been resolved.

The problem, affecting customers who use email addresses ending in, started yesterday. Virgin Media said that everything "returned to normal" today at 3pm.

Dana Hashem, a Virgin Media spokesperson, said: “The problem has now been resolved and affected customers are now able to send and receive emails normally.

"There was an isolated domain name (DNS) issue which has now been resolved. This is an isolated incident but we’ll take any learnings on board and work to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

The outage appeared to affect customers across the UK, from London to Glasgow, with affected users taking to Twitter to complain.

One customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, told ComputerworldUK that as well as not sending or receiving emails, emails were lost altogether during the outage, causing him "significant problems". 

Although emails have started coming back in the last hour, he said: "None of the missing ones though, at least so far".
