Maclaren prams – the British creator of the iconic pram and umbrella combination – has overhauled its legacy IT with cloud vendor NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce to run its global operations covering the UK to the US.

The firm will run its B2B and B2C ecommerce, inventory management, order management, marketing, warehouse management, manufacturing, customer support and financials from the new system.

Maclaren sells in over 50 different markets through 2,100 retailers and through its site Maclarenbaby.com. It chose to deploy a unified e-commerce suite to solve its complex infrastructure of integrated, customised systems that limited growth and prevented the firm from delivering the experience customers’ expected.

Jim Ramsey, global head of technology for Maclaren said: “We wanted one global solution that could manage everything and help us grow and expand without having to continue to reinvest in technology and different point solutions.”

Maclaren will be able to launch country-specific websites “in days”, NetSuite claimed, from a single site instance that supports multiple countries’ languages and tax rates.

Customers’ ability to self-serve online is increasingly important within retail. NetSuite offers order tracking, account detail management as well as purchase history so they can avoid picking up the phone.

Similarly, mobility is seeing huge investment. Maclaren can develop mobile-optimised experiences that displays elegantly across all devices.

NetSuite is moving its own underlying platform from AWS to Microsoft Azure to develop its partnership with the software firm, it announced at its flagship conference in April.
