Santander and Barclays customers hit by online banking problems

Problems occured around payday

Some customers of Barclays and Santander had difficulties accessing their online bank accounts over the weekend, due to ‘systems issues’.

“There were some systems issues which resulted in slow running [of online access],” a spokesperson for Barclays said.

Barclays’ problems occurred “intermittently” on Friday and Saturday, while Santander confirmed that its glitch had affected some of its online banking customers “for a short time on the morning of Friday 25 May”.

Both banks said that the issues were now fully resolved.

The problems occurred the same week that some HSBC customers struggled to get cash from ATMs and carry out debit card transactions, due to a hardware glitch.
