Oracle User Group votes to become 'more representative'

UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) members have voted in favour of changes to how the group is governed, with the aim of driving a more influential relationship with Oracle.

Currently, the user group is governed by an elected board of directors. Following the changes, the membership will elect a council, which will then decide who makes up an executive and the board of directors.

UKOUG decided to re-evaluate its organisational structure citing the impact on the organisation from the growth in the number of Oracle user communities and a fall in the organisation’s membership and revenue streams over the past few years.

According to UKOUG: “For members the changes mean better representation of a diverse membership, concentrated focus on member needs and ultimately a more influential relationship with Oracle.”

This has led to Debra Lilley, currently chairman of UKOUG, stepping down from her position. However, she remains on the board – which will be the ultimate authority for the organisation – and has now taken up the position of President of the council, the leader of UKOUG.

“This is a very important milestone for UKOUG, where we will separate what we do from how we do it,” said Lilley.

“I look forward to continuing to lead UKOUG, ensuring that we give the best possible service to the Oracle community.”
