London Ambulance Service rushes to pen and paper after serious system issue
BULLETIN: LAS investigating problem

The London Ambulance Service yesterday went back to pen and paper for several hours after a major system implementation problem.
The LAS moved from its in-house CTAK system to the Command Point system from supplier Northrop Grumman at 5am yesterday. Five hours later, after problems had forced it to work on pen and paper, it reverted to the CTAK system.

“We took this decision after we experienced technical issues implementing a new 999 computer system yesterday morning,” said a LAS spokesperson.
“In the interim we used our manual system for managing 999 calls; which involved recording calls on paper and passing information to ambulance crews over the radio.”
The spokesperson added that the LAS was now “considering” its options on when to revert to the Command Point system. An investigation is ongoing into the source of the problem.
Northrop Grumman had not commented at the time of writing.
Three years ago, the LAS was also forced to use pen and paper after a server crash.
