'Green Collar Workers' lobby employers
Environmentally conscious workers push companies into 'green' practices

‘Green Collar Workers’ are piling the pressure on employers to act on recycling and efficiency, with 51 percent of staff pushing for more ‘green’ practices.
This is the finding of new research from Fujitsu-Siemens Computers, which said the number of workers now lobbying their employers for ‘green’ practices had doubled in the last three years.

Steve Kendall-Smith, managing director at Fujitsu Siemens Computers UK, said: “Our research shows that the gap between how green we are at home and how green we are at work is certainly closing. We hope that the increased lobbying from this now well-established group of ‘Green Collar Workers’ can only help to continue to make many more UK businesses greener places to work in the future.”
British workers are far more environmentally conscious than previously, with 92 percent now recycling waste at home and 20 million walking or cycling for journeys of up to one mile. It’s in the workplace however that the change is greatest, with the survey finding that 71 percent now turn their PCs off overnight, and even more are recycling paper.
