Aviva picks NightWatchman for green drive

UK's largest insurer puts power management software on 30,000 desktops

Insurance giant Aviva is rolling out PC power management tool NightWatchman across 30,000 desktops.

The deployment which follows a successful trial conducted on 856 PCs during a two week period in May 2010, is aimed a t cutting costs and driving down energy consumption.

1E, which makes NightWatchman and Aviva believe the savings could amount to the equivalent annual CO2 emissions of 500 modern family cars.

“We are only too aware of the challenges posed by climate change. Managing our impact on the environment is central to our Corporate Responsibility programme,” said Christine Fraser, property and financial services director at Aviva.

“We are committed to addressing the issue of climate change and strive to eliminate waste and reduce energy usage.  We approached 1E and saw their solution as the best fit for what we need to achieve. We are excited to work together to achieve our carbon management goals.”

1E this week launched NightWatchman 6.0, with new features including:

  • Enterprise View web-based dashboard, designed for senior managers, to give a high-level view of power use.
  • Location-based tariffs – for large organisation facing energy tariffs specific to geographical location and energy provider.
  • Enhanced sleepless client detection offering built-in intelligence to ensure that PCs are being power managed when not in use.

NightWatchman has saved its customers GBP350 million in energy costs alone and it is now installed on 4.6 million PCs, 1E claimed.
