Cabinet Office appoints Open Data User Group chair
Heather Savory will lead the group that advises government on what data to release

Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude has appointed Heather Savory as the chair of the Open Data User Group (ODUG).
Her role will be to lead the ODUG in advising the government’s Data Strategy Board on what data should be released free at the point of use and re-use.
Savory said: “I look forward to establishing a user group that will represent all types of open data user, across all sectors, including small business representation.
“The ODUG will give open data users a voice, channelling their feedback to the heart of government, so that real-world needs can help this important policy area, stimulate innovation and new business, and achieve maximum economic impact.”
She will now choose the members of the ODUG.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Savory’s background is in IT and management consultancy, in the public and private sectors. Her previous roles include head of the regulatory flow team at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and head of metrics and benchmarking at the Office of Government Commerce.
