Chicago-based exchanges owner aims to increase support for EMEA customers

CME Group, the futures exchanges and online trading platforms owner, has announced plans to open a new technology office in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The company aims to create 80 to 90 positions in software development for back office and web-based applications.

CME Group is based in Chicago, with 2,700 employees worldwide. Its European headquarters is in London, where 170 members of staff are located.

The firm chose to locate its new technology office in Northern Ireland due to a “combination of talent and geography”.

A spokesperson for CME Group said: “[It] allows us to expand our operations and increase support for our customers across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

“The deep talent pool and focus on technology-related financial services are significant advantages in Northern Ireland relative to other areas.”
