Tata Steel appoints new CTO

Former ThyssenKrupp head returns to Europe

Tata Steel has appointed Hans Fischer as its new chief technical officer in Europe.

Uday Chaturvedi was the previous CTO, who retired at the end of March.

Fischer joins from German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp, where he headed its Steel Americas business between February 2010 and December 2011. He also held senior roles at German steelmaker Salzgitter and Dutch steelmaker Hoogovens, which is now part of Tata Steel.

In his new role, Fischer will be responsible for the company's European capital expenditure programme, engineering, R&D, environment and operational excellence.

He will start as CTO at Tata Steel on 1 July.
