The Post Office has inked a deal with Logica to implement two business intelligence systems from Kalido.
The new software, which will replace two legacy systems, is scheduled to go live early next year.
It will allow Post Office management to access information on product competitiveness and profitability. The move is part of a Post Office plan to modernise its systems and make them more flexible, as well as lowering costs.
Logica is set to implement Kalido Master Data Management and Dynamic Intelligence Warehouse products. Under the deal, of which the value has not been disclosed, Logica will provide applications management services for five years.
The MDM system will hold and manage all of the Post Office’s reference data, which includes everything from office addresses to products for sale, including travel insurance and stamp prices. Extracts of this data will be distributed to other systems every night.
DIW will act as the data warehouse, storing up-to-date information about the products sold daily at post office branches and other outlets.
Keith Graves, head of business partnerships at the Post Office, said: “The new business intelligence system will deliver major improvements in consistency, efficiency and access to information.”
The new systems will help the Post Office move away from previous disparate systems to integrated, standardised methodology, he said. “This delivers true visibility across the entire team and a more efficient way of working, all resulting ultimately in increased sales”.
Post Office parent Royal Mail is hoping to save £300 million by next year after implementing an SAP e-procurement platform.
The roll-out of the platform is part of a wider three-year procurement transformation programme at Royal Mail promising process and technology changes. Service provider Deloitte was hired to help with business planning, procurement, change and people management, and technology enablement.
Under new chief information officer Robin Dargue, Royal Mail is planning to hand out over 130,000 new mobile devices to link up remotely with various back-office applications in use across the organisation.
