Top law firm deploys flexible search system

Link with document management sytem boosts rapid search

Major UK law firm Slaughter and May has deployed a new knowledge management system that gives its staff flexible access to its extensive databases.

The firm is using Recommind’s Decisiv Search system, which is based on the CORE (context optimised relevancy engine) platform from the same supplier.

It provides Slaughter and May with a search facility across the firm’s know-how, intranet content and library sources. The solution has been customised so that it can be accessed from within Slaughter and May’s document management system, enabling users to highlight text in Word or Outlook and search directly for relevant data.

The platform will provide the firm’s 1,250 legal and non-legal staff in London, Brussels, Hong Kong and Beijing with quick access to the information and expertise they need, said Slaughter and May.

“Our lawyers are used to being able to filter and organise their search results easily on the internet, and it should be no different when it comes to searching our internal databases and information repositories," said Annabelle Vamos, head of knowledge and information at Slaughter and May.

"Decisiv Search provides an intuitive and powerful search platform to enable our lawyers to find what they are looking for as quickly as possible.”

Slaughter and May is the latest law firm to adopt Recommind’s search technology. Other law firms using it include Clifford Chance, Eversheds, Macfarlanes, Mills and Reeve and Stephenson Harwood.
