Sainsbury's adopts new workforce management system

Kronos system aimed at simplifying processes

Sainsbury's is aiming to cut costs and improve productivity with a new workforce management system.

The supermarket chain is using the Kronos system to manage time and attendance for 150,000-plus staff at over 1,000 locations across the UK.

Prior to selecting Kronos, Sainsbury's managed time and attendance and scheduling through a blend of manual and partially automated processes.

Rob Fraser, IT director at Sainsbury's, said: "Kronos software will help us manage and allocate our labour in store and pay our colleagues more effectively, whilst allowing us to benefit from simplifying our current processes."

Earlier this month it was announced that Sainsbury's had signed an extended multi-million pound point-of-sale managed services contract with NCR. The five-year deal will see Sainsbury's deploy NCR Predictive Services on its point-of-sale (POS) and self-checkout lanes, ensuring more devices are working in stores at peak times and "saving tens of thousands of hours in downtime", said Sainbury's.
