Perot to buy BearingPoint China Consultancy after Dell deal

Announcement comes after Dell bids US$3.9 billion for Perot

Perot Systems will buy the China unit of technology consultancy BearingPoint, bulking up its overseas business as the company is acquired by Dell.

Perot will acquire BearingPoint China Consulting, which serves clients in the automotive, insurance and other sectors, the companies said in a statement that did not give the value of the deal.

The announcement comes after Dell last month said it would spend US$3.9 billion to acquire Perot Systems, a services provider focused largely on the health-care sector.

The new deal fits with Dell's goal to give Perot a more global reach as it turns the company into its services division. It will also expand the range of services that Dell can offer to Chinese businesses alongside its hardware products.

Dell already offers hardware support maintenance services in China but has made few inroads for services such as consulting and outsourcing, said Tina Tang, a principal analyst at Gartner.

The acquisition announcements show Dell is aggressive about expanding in IT services, but in China it remains much smaller in that industry than rivals like IBM and Hewlett-Packard, she said.

Perot recently won contracts in China's manufacturing and health-care sectors.
