Allianz Insurance moves to SOA
Java-based EdgeConnect system to improve view of sales
By Leo King, Computerworld UK
Allianz Insurance is moving its IT to a service oriented architecture model in order to improve flexibility and simplify its presentation of information to brokers.

The firm is using EdgeConnect software from supplier Edge IPK for the move. The system will become the front end for legacy systems when it goes live in December.
The software is an open presentation platform, and Allianz said it would be able to improve how it presents information to third party brokers who handle small to medium business accounts. Its insurance products cover areas including retail, office, contractors and property owners.
After simplifying the presentation of its quote generation systems, Allianz said brokers would be able to more easily sign business.
The system integrates with Allianz’s existing legacy technology, such as its proprietary Coronet claims application, as well as the iMarket insurance trading platform, used by a variety of insurers. It provides information back to brokers in real time, without requiring any modification of other applications.
Chris Hanks, general manager commercial lines at Allianz, said: “Our online presence is absolutely vital to the way in which we are viewed as a business by customers, partners and investors, so it is critical that the online tools we make available today are customer centric and sustainable over the longer term."
EdgeConnect, a Java based system, will be managed by Edge IPK for its first six months, and will then be taken in-house by Allianz and maintained by one business analyst and two developers.
