Microsoft extends government licence deal
Discounts for departments and local councils

Microsoft has extended PSA09, a public sector licence deal, until December to give organisations the chance to procure under preferential terms.

The original deal, which began in May, was slated to run only until 30 June. But this has now been extended until 15 December.
Richard Steel, chief information officer at Newham Borough Council, today wrote in his blog it “was always going to prove challenging for some to take advantage of [the original timetable]".
The timescale was tight, he said, “especially considering the compressed window of opportunity resulting in slippage in getting the contract agreed and signed”.
The PSA09 framework between Microsoft and the government’s procurement arm, Buying Solutions, offers “preferential pricing” for all public sector organisations, software packages designed specifically for the sector, and the ability to transfer licences between different organisations.
It also offers the chance for public sector workers to have preferential licence terms for home use, and for individual public sector contractors to have access to Microsoft systems at a reduced rate.
“For the first time, public sector bodies of whatever size will be able to buy the licences for specific productivity tools that they need at the best price rather than the standard package,” said a spokesperson at Buying Solutions. “This reduces any unnecessary costs of buying unwanted products in those packages.”
