EDS UK boss Sean Finnan is leaving the company to join rival IBM Global Services.

The move ends a flurry of speculation following the news emerging this week that Finnan had left EDS. IBM today confirmed the move, which will take effect on 8 June.

At IBM, Finnan will take the role of ‘global dealmaker’ for its services business. According to analyst house TechMarketView, he will report to IBM senior VP Michael Daniels.

Finnan worked at EDS since 1985, and has overseen many of the company’s extensive public sector and private sector deals. He was also until this month president of the board at IT industry association Intellect.

Richard Holway, chairman at TechMarketView, said it was “quite a role” that Finnan was moving into at IBM. Finnan “clearly takes a huge amount of experience and a lifetime of contacts with him”, he said.

“Sean has a proven track record of high performance in the services business and an exemplary reputation in the marketplace,” said Daniels in an internal memo at IBM, quoted in the Wall Street Journal.

“We are very fortunate to have him join IBM and I know that I can count on all of you to assist with his transition as he quickly gets involved in leading some of our key deals and business development efforts.”

A spate of EDS executives have left the firm in recent months since its acquisition by HP. Last month, in EDS’ US headquarters, it emerged that head of sales Bobby Grisham, finance boss Tom Haubenstricker, Americas boss Mike Koehler and human resources head Mike Paolucci, will leave in the coming months.

“Although one expects leavers when a company is acquired, it is very worrying to see so much EDS talent and experience disappear,” Holway said.
