Virgin Atlantic has signed a five year, £25 million outsourcing deal with CSC.

Under the deal, which also has the option for a two year extension, CSC will host the airline’s datacentres and manage its web services.

Most of the work will be sourced from the UK, CSC said, and some will come from other countries. It did not provide a breakdown.

A managed framework agreement is also in place so that other parts of the Virgin Group will be able to more easily draw on similar services from CSC. The services firm has already worked with the group to develop the website, which offers loans.

Mike Cope, IT director at Virgin Atlantic, said the airline had made the move in order to “improve the cost effectiveness and flexibility of our IT services”. The company also hopes to reduce its environmental impact as a result.

Last month, Virgin Atlantic renewed an application services deal with EDS for five years, in order to help it set up a new reservation system.
