ITV is building a new data storage and management platform with EMC as part of its business transformation project.
The broadcaster is using EMC Isilon NAS (network attached storage) systems to enable it to transition to a file-based infrastructure in order to store and manage all content digitally, and make it available through existing broadcast channels and online platforms.
In August 2010, ITV announced its Transformation Plan, aimed at redesigning and refocusing the business over a five-year period. The EMC deal will provide storage for all ITV production sites and two datacentres, to allow ITV to scale-out storage in line with its transformational plan and future growth, the broadcaster said.
Andrew Ioannou, director of strategy at ITV, said: "We have entered into an agreement with EMC Isilon to support a core part of ITV's technology platform. The deal marks continued progress of ITV's Transformation Plan and a further step in our move towards a fully tapeless environment."
Earlier this year, ITV said it was deploying a fibre optic network between its data centres in a bid to improve online content delivery. The company brought in Geo Networks to connect its Slough and Greenwich data centres with a 10 Gigabit fibre optic network, which can be scaled later to terabit capacity if required. ITV is using the network to deliver richer content with fewer interruptions.
