What a year: The best and worst of 2007
2007 will go down as the year that HM Revenue and Customs lost 25 million child benefit records.

There were plenty of other big stories around - the arrival of MiFID, the success of the iPhone and the lukewarm reception given to Vista, to name just three. Plus of course we continued to witness the trials of those involved in trying to deliver the NHS's national programme for IT.
But those two lost discs undoubtedly take the top spot. We can only hope the government's numerous failures to protect our data in 2007 ultimately prompt organisations to get their data security right in 2008 and beyond.
