Transit App is a free Android and iOS app for planning journeys on your local city's public transport.
The app knows about all your local transport options: bus, subway, metro, uber, car2go, train, streetcar, light rail, ferry and more.
It supports around 100 metropolitan areas, half of which are in the USA (Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando and more), but there's also good coverage in Canada and France, as well as London, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Mexico City and Nairobi.
Wherever you are, Transit App provides the very latest information on all your nearest options and departure times.
You can see where your bus or train is on the map in real time.
If you've time, the app can help you plan A-to-B trips via all supported transport modes. Important routes can be marked as favourites for easy recall, and you can review schedules and routes later, even while you're offline.
What's New in Version 3.12.1
**Transit App was selected by Boston’s MBTA as their officially endorsed app! Now Bostonians won’t have to try out every app in the store before finding the best one.**
So what have we been up to aside from winning the love and fidelity of transit agencies? Well, we know that some of you decided to move to the ‘burbs. When you open Transit App, you feel despondent, isolated. All you see is Uber. But there are ways to get to commuter stations! Moms with cars, flying pigs...
Well, guess what? We’re making your dreams come true. From today, suburbanites and rural folks will be able to see more lines in the Nearby Mode, whether they’re just around the corner, or ten miles away. So step away from the pig. And get yourself down to the station before you miss your train.
In other news, Transit App is now available in Portuguese. And no, we haven’t quite made it to Portugal or Brazil. That would be far too logical.
As usual, our data integrators have been working their heinies off:
- Added Dayton, OH (for those who don’t love being parked on interstates)
- Added real-time info + service alerts for Via in San Antonio (Yes! We remembered the Alamo)
- Added CTRAN in Vancouver, WA (no, Canada, not that Vancouver)
- Added suburban Boston agencies:
- Merrimack Valley RTA
- Cape Cod RTA
- Greater Attleboro RTA
- Southeastern RTA
- Montachusett RTA
Maintaining accurate times across so many transport types is horribly difficult, but Transit App seems to do better than most, and with a 4-star rating on Google Play and the App Store it looks like most users are happy.
