Perfect Photo Show is an extremely easy-to-use application for creating video slideshows.

The program initially looks and feels much like any other slideshow creator. A file browser helps you navigate to your images; you drag and drop them onto the slideshow timeline, then rearrange them into your preferred order, or maybe add a soundtrack (MP3, WMA, OGG or WAV).

Clicking the Preview button displays the results, and they can look great. Perfect Photo Show adds motion to your slideshow by zooming in or out, and applies random Mosaic and Dissolve transitions as you move from one picture to the next. If you're happy, the Publish button will export the results to an AVI file, or upload them directly to YouTube.

There are also some problems. The really, really big one is that Perfect Photo Show assumes all your pictures are all in a landscape orientation, and any portraits will be cropped to just the centre. We regularly found our human subjects were missing the top half of their heads, and the only way to fix this is to adjust pictures individually. (That is, add white space to either side of the image to make it a landscape shot. Not exactly convenient.)

The other issue here is that there's no slide-level control over the project. You can tell the program you want slides to be displayed for 5 seconds (for example), and that you'd like to use only dissolve transitions, but these settings apply to the entire slideshow: you can't vary them per slide.

Perfect Photo Show is short on features, but this also means it's exceptionally easy to use, and the program could be an ideal slideshow creator for the non-technical. But poor handling of portrait images and a lack of slide-level control means more confident users will be better off elsewhere.
