HP Intelligent Security Solutions: Breaks down Security Silo

HP is rolling out enterprise security solutions spanning the total enterprise IT infrastructure

Article comments
HP announced additions to its security solutions portfolio on Sep 10, 2012  that enable enterprises to assess, transform, optimise and manage their security environments proactively. The new solution offerings labeled -"Intelligent Security Solutions" help IT deal with escalating security issues driven by cloud, mobility and big data initiatives.

The underlying premise is that the current reactive approaches to security breaches are not effective or comprehensively cover the data loss. A proactive approach reduces the resources, time, effort and financial spend in dealing with escalating cyber security threats, while permitting IT to focus on core business activities. It is worthwhile noting - HP is rolling out enterprise security solutions spanning the total enterprise IT infrastructure.

This permits a uniform security policy across different business units, regions, disparate IT systems, while ensuring security silos do not exist hidden from view. Often, some units, IT systems or regions have higher standards compared to their counterparts, but are affected by weakness in the overall system. This blog covers the overall HP security release, with focus on printer security announcement.

HP announced some enterprise security solutions for the public sector including: Comprehensive Applications Threat Analysis (CATA) , HP security operations center (SOC) consulting services, new features to HP assured identity.

Other solutions for enterprise include: HP data center protection services, HP ArcSight enterprise security manager, HP TippingPoint NX platform next generation intrusion prevention systems (NGIPS) and mobile app from HP digital vaccine lab (DVLabs).

From the printer environment security viewpoint, HP has rolled out a mix of new solutions and enhancements:

  1. HP Access Control (HP AC) Printing Solutions for Healthcare vertical-  [Enhancement]

Provides enterprise clients with greater control of imaging and printing assets by utilising secure authentication, secure pull printing, intelligent management and job accounting.

  2. HP Imaging and Printing Assessment [New]

Enables enterprise clients to identify and address security risks associated with print infrastructure (unattended documents, confidential information on device hard disks). This is a new service.

  3. Enhanced HP Imaging and Printing Security Center (IPSC) v 2.0.7 [Enhancement]

Enables enterprise clients to automate security policy application across imaging and printing assets. Helps deploy and monitor print assets. This is an enhancement to existing IPSC framework.

The overall HP security solution releases as well as the printer specific security announcements, ensure compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MFID). HP is seeking to target markets with highest security regulations or needs in the first phase: Public sector, financial, manufacturing, telco and healthcare.

IDC believes HP has the ability to leverage both its direct and channel presence to drive the penetration of its security solution portfolio. Given security is an increased concern the offering should receive a good market reception. HP can leverage the breadth of its IT security solution portfolio to serve the needs of the enterprise ranging from datacenter security to printer security. Key selling points will be price, flexibility, vertical expertise and ease of implementation
